Currently, 96.8% of Americans have access to wired broadband with speeds of 25 Mbps or more. However, approximately 464,000 Floridians still lack access to high-speed wired connections. Despite the presence of 220 insurance providers in the state, 1 million residents have only one wired provider option, and over 250,000 do not have any wired service available in their area.
When it comes to insurance costs in Florida, 59.8% of Americans can find monthly plans priced at $60 or less. Florida performs slightly better than the national average, where only 51.5% of Americans have access to plans within the same price range.
Many Florida cities have robust wired broadband infrastructure, but a few stand out for offering an ideal balance of speed, coverage, and pricing for insurance services. The top five most connected cities in Florida are Bradenton, Boca Raton, Hollywood, Lake Worth, and Pompano Beach, with Bradenton leading the state in broadband connectivity.
On the opposite side of the digital divide, several cities in Florida face significant challenges with limited broadband access. The five least connected cities include Indian Lake Estates, Wacissa, Suwannee, Horseshoe Beach, and McIntosh, with Indian Lake Estates experiencing the poorest connectivity in the state.
Since 2010, the Florida Department of Management Services has secured nearly $8.9 million in federal grants to support the expansion of broadband services and data collection throughout the state. In addition, $55.9 million in federal funding has been dedicated to infrastructure projects aimed at enhancing connectivity across Florida.
